Emergency Dental Care in Pimpri: What to Do if You Lose a Tooth

Dental emergencies rarely happen at a convenient time. Whether it’s a sports injury, a sudden fall, or a biting accident, a knocked-out or broken tooth can be a frightening experience. However, knowing exactly what to do in the first 60 minutes can be the difference between saving and losing your natural tooth.

At Denteva Implant Lounge & Advance Dental Care, we prioritize dental emergencies to ensure our Pimpri-Chinchwad community gets the urgent care they need. Here is your emergency guide to handling a dental crisis.

1. If Your Tooth is Completely Knocked Out

If a permanent tooth is knocked out, it is a race against time. Follow these steps immediately:

  • Handle with Care: Pick up the tooth by the crown (the chewing surface), never the root. Touching the root can damage the delicate cells needed for reattachment.

  • Rinse Gently: If it’s dirty, rinse it with water. Do not use soap, chemicals, or scrub it.

  • Try to Reinsert: If possible, gently place the tooth back into the socket and hold it there by biting down on a piece of clean gauze.

  • Keep it Moist: If you can’t put it back in the socket, place it in a small container of milk or a specialized tooth preservation kit. Do not store it in plain tap water for long periods.

  • Call Us Immediately: You need to see a dentist within 30 to 60 minutes for the best chance of saving the tooth.

2. If Your Tooth is Cracked or Fractured

A cracked tooth may not seem like an emergency if it doesn’t hurt, but the inner structure is now vulnerable to bacteria.

  • Rinse your mouth with warm salt water to keep the area clean.

  • Apply a cold compress to the outside of your face to reduce any swelling.

  • Avoid eating on that side until you reach our clinic.

3. Severe Toothaches or Abscesses

Sudden, unbearable pain accompanied by swelling or a fever can indicate a serious infection. An abscess is a dental emergency because the infection can spread to other parts of your body if left untreated. If you notice a “pimple-like” bump on your gums, contact us right away.

4. Lost Filling or Crown

While not always as painful as a knocked-out tooth, a lost restoration leaves your tooth weak and sensitive. If you have the crown, bring it with you. We can often clean and re-cement it back into place quickly.
